About me…

December 12, 2008 - Leave a Response

I am a 27 year old journalism student attending the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK. Born in Oklahoma, my family raised me for most of my young adult life in New Orleans, LA., where I learned the importance of a hearty meal, good friends, and evacuation.

A freshman at OU in 2000, I gained my BA in Communication in December of 2004. Upon graduation, I pursued endeavors in recruiting (or attempting to get an individual to take a worse job for less money) and sales. Sales was a nice fit for my personal skill set, and success was achieved in a rather stagnant housing market in the town of Destin, Florida.

At some point, the world of quotas and estimates grew stifling and cold in the tepid Florida climate. I enjoyed working with people, and it was apparent my customers always came away from their dealings with me satisfied. I simply wanted to try my hand at something else I had always fancied. Knowing my abilities in sales were inherent and accessible at any time, I decided to chase a dream of being a journalist.

I applied to come back to OU for graduate school. I was accepted, and upon my return immediately experienced a rejuvenation only possible in an environment overflowing with youthful exuberance. After a semester, it was brought to my attention through advising that another BA was very few credit hours away. This piqued my interest immediately considering my original goal was to get a job in the industry as quickly as possible.

This brings us to my current position. I am taking courses explicitly geared towards preparing students for careers in a new journalistic frontier: convergence. Having returned to strengthen my abilities as a writer, I have found the opportunity to do so much more, incorporating video, sound, and interactive elements in my stories as well.

I look forward to discussing how these skills, accompanied with an active mind and solid news judgement, make me a candidate for the position you are searching to fill.
